The ‘STORY WATER’ project brings the renowned Ensemble Modern into contact with one of Europe’s leading choreographers. Originally Emanuel Gat always wanted to be a musician, and probing the relation between music and dance has become a defining feature of his work. The concept is unusual: part of the choreography is developed on the basis of finished scores, while another part makes use of a novel procedure in which dancers and musicians create an overall score involving both music and choreography. The gestures of sound production merge with those of the dance, elegantly crossing and blurring traditional boundaries and responsibilities.
