WORKS is in many ways the best tribute a choreographer could pay to dancers. Emmanuel Gat is at the top of his game here.
Constellation. This is a fitting term to describe WORKS, a piece for ten dancers conceived by Emmanuel Gat in close collaboration with his performers. His creative process over the last ten years has focused on exploring new models of artistic production by addressing ideas of inclusion and support. Works has duos alternating with ensembles in a seamlessly harmonious sequence of movements. Stolen glances and gestural flights keep time. The dance changes gears with every word or number, with dancers always on the lookout, a perfect example of the communal vibe driving Emmanuel Gat’s company. Alternating live and recorded music, from Nina Simone to Awir Leon, the piece radiates freedom, creating a beautiful sense of universal togetherness in real time. The goal for the choreographer is to celebrate dancers, their virtuosity, singularity, commitment, courage, responsibility and humanity. WORKS then becomes a song of love before our eyes.
