Besides dance, choreographer Emanuel Gat has other artistic talents. He regularly accompanies his company’s work with a camera. The exhibition 2020 is a kind of retrospective. In three overlapping chapters, it brings together photographs by Gat from different phases and invites visitors to get to know the choreographer’s work in an unusual way, quasi through his gaze. In the familiar setting of the dance studio, in the midst of the working process, Gat uses the camera to penetrate the visible layers, in search of an independent visual form that reflects both the specificity of the process of creating a piece and the particular presence of the dancers. In each chapter, the viewer is taken “behind the scenes” of the choreographic process through a different approach. 2020 conveys an intimate vision of Gat's dance work and at the same time manages to make the special nature of dance as an art form visually tangible.
