“We laugh at gestures from the world of swimming or children's games. We are seized by perfect lines and backs that embody the vibrations of strings. The further the show progresses, the more coherent it is as an allegory of a life within a community that would work.”

“For his first participation at the Avignon Festival, this Israeli choreographer based in France did not choose the easy way. But by asserting the strive towards a dance in which performers are at the centre - and sometimes co-authors - Emanuel Gat stands out in the big leagues. And at the Cour d’Honneur.”

“What a journey and what a show! Let’s say it, Story Water is a success. It is not that Emanuel Gat has “tamed the wal” of the court as is the custom. He plays in front of it.”

“Story Water immerses a deep and serene look upon where music and choreography meet, intermediaries offered to a space where everyone can walk, just as crossing a garden. * This sentence could summarise the feeling at the end of the show, a sensation that will remain and continue to grow in us. To receive this gift, one will need to be patient, to wait for the last minutes of this performance, and thus to experience the power and strength of Story Water.”

“Nailed to their chairs, seized by the purity and modesty of Gat’s dance, the spectators have only one desire: to rush on the stage. We come out smiling, remembering why we so often go to the theatre: to experience those rare and short moments when a joyful meeting takes place as we are united by Art. Gat inscribed his name on the pediment of the greatest choreographers who have played in the Cour d’Honneur.”

“But finally, Story Water is, indeed, a masterful ode to dance, an act of faith and high maturity from an artist who has reached the heights of mastery.”

“Under its initial appearances of a long and quiet river, Story Water carried in it all the germs of a courageous rhetoric, unfolding subtly. Gat hoists on the crests of a repeating landscape. Resulting in purity that manages to say something altogether different.”
